Kindergarten staggered entry week

Wednesday August 28th: Families will receive a call from their assigned teacher in the evening.
Thursday August 29th: Open House
* No school for Kindergartners. Families and their scholars can meet their teacher and deliver school supplies. Two opportunities:
1. 9AM-10AM
2. 5PM-6PM
Friday August 30th: First full day for scholars
* All Kindergarten scholars will have their first full day of Kindergarten with their assigned classroom teacher and new classmates! Families are welcome to park and walk their scholar to their classroom. Each person over the age of 18 that comes into the building will need to sign in with Lobby Guard at the front office. A license or passport is required to sign in.
Summer Play Dates
Grade specific social events held during the summer, hosted by the PTA, at nearby locations. A great opportunity to meet classmates and families. Check our PTA Calendar for the 2024 Summer dates.
UniformS
Shamrock Gardens Elementary is a Uniform School. The full policy is listed below. Most big box stores have a Uniform Section where items can be acquired at varying price points. School Spirit wear can be purchased here and can be worn on any day with uniform bottoms.
- Dress Down for Fun(d)raiser
- First Friday of the month - No Uniform Day Fundraiser
- A $2 donation is appreciated and can be paid in cash, Zelle (sgemoney@gmail.com) or through the SGE PTA website.
- Uniform Assistance - Please reach out to marye.hart@cms.k12.nc.us
- Uniform Donation Program - the PTA will host drives throughout the year to collect and distribute gently used uniforms
UNIFORM POLICY
- Bottoms: Dark blue or khaki bottoms (pants, shorts, skirts, jumpers, skorts, etc.) Shorts and skirts should fall slightly above the knee line. Scholars SHOULD NOT wear blue jeans of any kind.
- Tops: White, light or dark green, light or dark blue tops (long os short sleeved shirts, blouses, turtlenecks, etc.) All tops must have a collar or must be dress shirt (no T-shirts). Shirts must be tucked into pants at all times. Shamrock school spirit T-shirts can be part of the daily uniform as long as they are paired with uniform bottoms.
- Dresses: Dark blue or khaki. Dresses should fall slightly above the knee line.
- Socks, Leggings, and Tights: Scholars should wear dark blue, white or neutral colored socks, leggings, or tights with their uniforms.
- Shoes: Scholars will be expected to wear shoes that have a closed toe and flat. Scholars can wear tennis shoes or any type of other casual or dress shoes. Please no heels/wedges. Open-toe and open-heel shoes such as sandals and flip-flops are not permitted for safety reasons.
- Belts: Scholars will be expected to wear a dark-colored belt when necessary with their uniforms (i.e. pants, skirts, shorts, that are larger than a child’s waist). Shirts/blouses must be tucked into pants at all times.
- Hats: Scholars will not be allowed to wear hats, caps, hoods, or scarves inside the school building.
- Scholars are to be in uniform everyday, except on scheduled non-uniform days (see school calendar: LINK) or when special permission is granted by administration for Spirit Days.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES
- EduKit - A convenient option to order school supply kits online that will be delivered directly to the classroom.
- Supplies can be purchased on your own. You can find the supply list on EduKit
- Supplies in the lower grades are often shared. It is not recommended to purchase personalized items.
- If you purchased your own supplies, please bring to Open House on DATE TBD.
Transportation
Car Line Information: You will receive your Car Line tag during pick up the first week of school. Follow the Car Line map for pick up. For more Car Line Information check the Glossary.
Bus Information: Please visit the CMS Transporation Page for information about riding the bus. LINK:https://www.cmsk12.org/buses . You can sign up through the website and download the Here Comes the Bus App to track your scholar’s bus.
Child Nutrition Services
This is the department that provides breakfast and lunch to our scholars each day. For more information visit: https://www.cmsk12.org/domain/96. You can also find the link to PayPams (Pay Parent Account Management System). LINK: https://www.paypams.com. PayPams is the online payment service CMS uses to manage all cafeteria purchases. Families can load money on their scholar’s account to be used for food and beverages. Another important App to download is the Nutrislice App: https://cms.nutrislice.com/menus-eula. The Nutrislice App displays the school breakfast and lunch menu each day.

- Free for all students
- The menu can be found on Nutrislice
- SNACKS
- Every scholar will have a snack time during the day and are encouraged to bring one from home
- A supply of snacks may be available in individual classrooms. Teachers may ask for assistance in stocking this supply throughout the year.
- LUNCH
- Students may bring their lunch or purchase lunch at school
- School lunch will be $2.75/day. Additional items can also be purchased.
- Payment is handled through PayPams
- Apply for free or reduced lunch through School Nutrition Services.
- Lunch Dates - Families can join their scholar during lunch any day of the week, but you must be registered as a volunteer. Teachers will send lunch times.
- Should a scholar forget their lunch, one will be provided from CMS School Nutrition
