INVEST success!

THANK YOU to our dedicated families, scholars, and local business sponsors for helping us reach our fall fundraising goals, and for making INVEST month a resounding success! We feel so lucky to be part of this community that works together to make Shamrock special every day.

And congratulations to House Explore (Blue) for winning a close Penny Wars race! We loved seeing how INVESTed the scholars were in this fun competition. Scholars raised a whopping $1,111 for our neighbors in Western North Carolina. #WNCstrong

PROSPECTIVE FAMILIES OPEN HOUSES

Spread the word to friends and neighbors about upcoming SGE open houses! Families can learn more about what makes SGE special, meet staff, and tour the school. Interested families can see all open house dates and register for a session at: https://bit.ly/comeseesge24

SAFETY FIRST

As a reminder, please be vigilant when entering and exiting the SGE campus. We have a healthy (pun intended) number of walkers and bike riders, which is something to celebrate but also requires everyone to practice good safety measures. Drive slowly and safely on and near campus. We appreciate your courteous mindset.

Volunteer Needs

HELPING HANDS

Helping Hands volunteers meet every Wednesday morning in the teacher work room to make copies/laminate/cut projects for each grade level. This work helps our teachers tremendously. As Ms. Whitaker put it, "This incredible group is truly a lifeline for our school... Helping Hands is not just a convenience--it's an invaluable resource that directly impacts the quality of education your children receive."

So, please consider volunteering with Helping Hands this year--or next year! Many of the current volunteers are fifth grade parents. Volunteers can come in every Wednesday or on the Wednesdays they are available. Veteran helpers will show you how to use the machines, so no experience is necessary!  Please contact Laura Michaud to find out more.

(And a huge THANK YOU to Laura Michaud for leading these efforts for the past few years!)

LUCKY'S LIBRARY

Lucky's Library (a magical place!) is visited by scholars who have read certain total minutes at home and can select a book to keep as a reward for reading. It is typically open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 7:30-8:00am and is staffed by parent volunteers. Please check out the available dates to volunteer, as we'd love to get coverage through December! It's the perfect volunteer opportunity to knock out before work or an otherwise busy day!

MORE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

There are plenty of opportunities to get involved and support SGE. Visit our website to learn more about Heart Math Tutoring, Thursday folders, Lucky Dads, and more! (A signup for the Book Fair - sponsored by Khali Yoga - in December was just added!) Remember to register at cmsvolunteers.com so you're set for the school year.

Featured Events
TODAY! November 1st

Coffee with Principal Potter: Join Principal Potter and the PTA at 8:15am at the school. She'll discuss information at the state, district, and school level. Questions are always welcome.

Dress Down for FUNd: Scholars can make a donation of $2 or more to be uniform-free! You can also send in a lump sum to cover all ten Dress Down days (e.g., $2 x 10 = $20 for the year)! Pay online, or your scholar can bring cash.

Treat Yourself and SGE

Join SGE families for Spirit Night at YAFO Plaza Midwood (1331 Central Ave, Suite 101) on Tuesday, November 12th, anytime 4:00-9:00pm! Build a bowl, mention SGE, and a percentage of your purchase will benefit Shamrock. Win-win.

Movie Night!

SGE Movie Night will feature the movie IF on Friday, November 15th, at 6:00pm, on the blacktop at the school. The PTA is again sponsoring this event so it can be free for all Shamrock scholars and their families. Concessions will be available for purchase. Bring your own blankets and lawn chairs!

School Improvement Team (SIT) Meeting

All SGE community members are welcome to attend the next SIT meeting on Wednesday, November 20th at 5:00pm, in the SGE Media Center (library). Be part of the development of the School Improvement Plan (SIP), and engage in decisions that impact all scholars.

The SIP and related materials, including SIT meeting agendas and notes, can be found here (login username and password are both: guests7119). Click the red "Goals & Performance Measures" button for this school year's full list of goals, which include decreasing suspension incidents, increasing at-grade-level testing performance, and retaining high performing teachers.

Happy Thanksgiving!

There is NO school November 27th to 29th. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! We are thankful for all of you!

(in case you missed it)

  • Are you confused about all the acronyms? LI/TD, PTA, CoGAT, etc.? You're not the only one! The SGE PTA website includes a glossary that will help demystify these terms and many others for you. (No cap...)
  • After-school activities: A number of excellent organizations are partnering with SGE to provide voluntary after-school programs for our scholars. See more information here! We've included a chart of potential available activities, the days of the week they are held, and which grades are eligible to participate.

  • Visitor check-in: All visitors on campus (including basketball game attendees, after-school activity participants/volunteers, landscape workers, etc.) must sign in through the visitor check-in system, LobbyGuard, to be accounted for. This is a CMS security requirement. Visitors can save time by becoming a CMS volunteer in advance. Driver's licenses are required for adults.

  • Support SGE every day! Buy spirit wear, rent the rock, and earn while you shop.
